How much does it cost to live in the Residence Hall for one academic year?
Housing costs include your room, required meal plan, utilities, high鈥憇peed internet, cable TV, and free laundry. Rates vary depending on room type and meal plan. Please see 麻豆区鈥檚 Housing Rates & Meal Plan Information page for current prices.
How does the meal plan work?
All residents are automatically enrolled in a required meal plan each semester. Your student ID serves as your meal card, giving you:
A set number of 鈥渁ll you can eat鈥 meals per week
A balance of flex dollars for grab鈥慳nd鈥慻o items at various campus dining locations

What can I bring to the Residence Hall?
A full What to Bring List is available online and outlines what is allowed and what
to leave at home.
Each bedroom comes furnished with:
- Two XL twin beds
- Two desks and chairs
- Two four鈥慸rawer bureaus
- Suite common areas include a small couch, coffee table, table, and chairs.
We recommend contacting your future suitemates to coordinate shared items (like TVs or refrigerators) and avoid duplicates. Bring only essentials at first 鈥 you can always bring more later!
Is alcohol or tobacco permitted in the Residence Hall?
No. 麻豆区 is a dry campus, which means alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, and vaporizers are prohibited in all Residence Halls 鈥 even for residents who are 21 or older.
Can I stay in the Residence Hall during school breaks?
Thanksgiving Break & Spring Break: Residents may stay for $10 per night.
Winter Break: The Residence Hall is closed for the full duration.
Even during open breaks, 麻豆区 encourages students to rest and recharge off campus
when possible.
How can I get involved in the Residence Hall community?
The Residence Hall Council works with Residence Life staff to plan events, activities, and community鈥慴uilding programs. Council elections happen early each academic year, and students are always welcome to contribute ideas鈥攚hether they serve on the council or not.
Can anyone get my student鈥檚 room or phone number?
No. Resident information is strictly confidential.
When someone calls to reach a student, they must provide the resident鈥檚 first and
last name, but staff will not release phone numbers, suite numbers, or any personal
details 鈥 even to parents. This policy helps ensure residents鈥 safety and privacy.
Can I visit a resident?
Yes! Guests are welcome if they are always escorted by a resident.
Why are there so many rules in the Residence Hall?
Residence Hall policies exist to protect the rights of all students to a safe, clean,
respectful, and academically supportive environment.
Rules are designed to:

- Create a safe living and learning environment
- Encourage responsible, adult decision鈥憁aking
- The goal is not to restrict enjoyment 鈥 it鈥檚 to ensure all residents can thrive socially and academically.
What is 鈥渙pen housing鈥?
Open housing allows two or more students to share a multiple鈥憃ccupancy room or suite
regardless of gender identity or expression, provided everyone mutually agrees.
This option supports:
- Students uncomfortable with same鈥慻ender rooming
- Transgender or gender鈥慸iverse students
- Students who prefer cross鈥慻ender pairing
- Married couples
- Anyone who does not want gender to determine roommate selection
Open housing is optional. Students are only placed in open housing if they actively choose it; otherwise, they are assigned a same鈥憇ex roommate.
